S Sudan Crisis: British FM Calls M7, Bashir To Visit Juba

The British Foreign Secretary William Hague has spoken to President Yoweri Museveni about the ongoing conflict in South Sudan, asking the latter to ensure there is access to humanitarian aid in the areas worst hit by the fighting.

William Hague’s conversation with president Museveni was revealed Sunday on social media.

The British foreign secretary also discussed the fate of the negotiations that are currently underway in the Ethiopian capital Adis Ababa

“Called President Museveni of Uganda today to discuss South Sudan negotiations – Uganda’s constructive role vital. Also discussed with President Museveni working to ensure access for humanitarian aid in parts of ‪#‎SouthSudan‬ affected by fighting” William Hague tweeted.

The conversation between the two recognizes president Museveni’s role in trying to end the conflict in South Sudan.

Mean while Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir is set to travel to South Sudan, amid rising tensions in the violence-hit country.

A Sudanese Radio said Sunday that Bashir would meet South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir in Juba on Monday, for talks on the ongoing conflict between the government and rebels in the country.

The conflict pits supporters of Mr Kiir against rebels led by his sacked deputy, Riek Machar.

At least 1,000 people have been killed since violence erupted on 15 December
